Experience History

Take a trip to the Tybee Light Station, Georgia's tallest and oldest lighthouse.  Built in 1773 and standing 144 feet, this historic lighthouse has been guiding sailors safely for nearly 300 years. 

Back on dry land, Fort Pulaski, located on Cockspur Island near the mouth of the Savannah River, was constructed in the 1800's to defend the port city of Savannah.  Today it stands as a remarkably well-preserved example of 19th century military architecture.

A mere half hour from Tybee Island, Savannah is a unique blend of history, elegance and charm.  Make a day trip to visit the local boutiques and mouth-watering restaurants.  There is plenty to see, experience and enjoy in this quintessential southern city before you head back to your Tybee Island beach home. 

See the Animals

The Tybee Island marine Science Center's mission is to shape a responsible stewardship of Coastal Georgia's natural recourses through marine science-based education, conservation and research.  Located by the pier, be sure to stop by and learn about the area wildlife at their interactive exhibits.

Renowned for its bird watching, Tybee Island is on the Colonial Coastal Birding Trail, and hosts over 200 species of birds.  It is also host to tens of thousands of migratory birds, making their annual journey. 

Hit the Trails

Tybee's designated bike route, a combination of paths and safe streets, is a great way to tour the neighborhoods.  If you're looking for a slightly more difficult ride, take on the six-mile Old Railroad Trail along US-80.
